O Canberra

I reference the anthem 'O Canada,' which is the national anthem of Canada (there's a shock). I don't exactly know why I referenced it, other than to make (in my mind, at least) a clever title. Anyway. Enough justification; we drove to Canberra; this much is obvious. So, without further ado, to my day.

I woke up at around 7:30, and as we had packed clothes the last night, I wasn't in any particular hurry to get ready. However, predictably, time crept on me, until it was 8:30-ish and I hadn't even packed my laptop (why do I do this?). So I rushed around, putting together my laptop, books I was going to read (I think I brought four. Yes, four.), some of the materials for writing my book, as well as an assortment of other such items, like my iPod, portable radio and DS. When I go somewhere, I am prepared for almost any eventuality. So after Nanny got here (as she and Mum wanted to see this place called Floriade; more on that next post), we set off on the road to Canberra.

The whole trip took 2 and a half hours, and Mum, EJ, Nanny and I all entertained ourselves in our own ways. Mum and Nanny listened to Robbie Williams (of course) and talked; EJ read and played his DS (I think, not entirely sure); and I read Harry Potter 6, and then moved on to 7. That took up pretty much the entire car ride, really. I was going to play DS halfway through, to EJ's persistence, but it ran out of power and died about 3 minutes after I started to play it. Ah well. When we got to my Dad's place, we unpacked, and then we went out to get lunch. Lunch was chips and juice, although it took a few goes to get unexpired juice. We then decided to take a trip to the War Memorial.

We didn't do too much there, as we'd pretty much seen most of it. But we did go to show Nanny our relative (on Dad's side, so not related by blood to Nanny) who had died at Gallipoli: Angus Valentine Cameron, known to the Memorial as Angus Cameron (how do I know this? It was at the last time I was at the War Memorial, April 21. I do so love how I can do that now; my blog is like an extension of my memory.). EJ prompted a classic blonde moment by going 'Here he is!' I replied, 'Those are the "L"s, EJ.' Funny (turns out he was looking for our last name. Still funny, though.). We then went to the shops, and came home, where we stayed. There, my fears were confirmed: there would be no internet for the entire weekend. And that is why the posts are late. So for the rest of the night, I made some stuff on Spore, blogged a bit, and watched the movie that was on TV: 'The Incredibles.' It may be a kids movie, but it's good (Pixar movies are always good. Always. It's difficult saying the best, but 'Wall-E' would definitely be up there.).

And that was the first day in Canberra. Tomorrow's post may be a bit longer, because we went out for longer. Lateness would usually get a mention here, but I think I've covered it. Anyway. Soon I'll get back to schedule; it'll be hard, but I'll try.

The first day of holidays was an eventful one, a good sign, I think,

The Term, It Is A-Endin’

Yes, the term has ended, it is finished! Bring on the two weeks of freedom, or, as free as I can be when I've got to studies for the Yearlies and the Trial School Certificate that start on the second day back, as well as a bloody Science assignment. Anyway. I'm not supposed to be thinking about that now, because it's the end of term! Also, yes, it's an incredibly late post. But that's because I went to Canberra; more information to follow.

Before school, I handed in my PE assignment, and went to borrow books from the library, for the holidays. I got Harry Potter 6, amongst other things, as our copy had been broken (EJ threw against a wall for some reason). Period 1 was Agriculture, and the whole class went down to the farm to check out our potato crops. Ours hasn’t sprouted yet, but some have. As usual, I put on my iPod. I also talked to the girls about the formal and jokes. Not telling jokes, talking about jokes. Period 2 was History, and Johnson was away. Instead, we had Crancher, and I celebrated the end of the term by reading. A lot of other people were doing their PE assignment, and I’m glad I wasn’t under so much stress by finishing the assignment the day it was meant to be handed it, I can tell you that. Recess was mostly 31, as there were many people who usually play cards not here.

Period 3 was Maths, and we learnt about abundant, deficient, perfect and weird numbers. (I was going to explain what all of those numbers actually are, but I realised I would be going on for quote a while, and it wouldn’t make for good reading. So here are the articles for abundant, deficient, perfect and weird numbers from Wikipedia. Anyway.) Much innuendo was made about being ‘deficient’ and other such puns, which you wouldn’t think was possible until you realise this is A1 we’re talking about and it all makes sense. Period 4 was Science, and we watched a video on the Challenger and Columbia disasters, which, if you don’t know what they are (and if you don’t, you really need to look them up. Of course, it could just be my nerdiness. Here are the Wikipedia articles for Challenger and Columbia if you don’t. Also, sorry for the link explosion, but let it never be said that my blog isn't informative.), were two incidents where space shuttles were destroyed, killing seven. It was pretty interesting, although in a freaky sort of way. I do like astronomy (if I haven’t mentioned this yet, it is a big oversight. It’s one of my favourite subjects, if not the favourite.). Lunch was discussing superstring theory and the possible existence of extra dimensions for the first half (only in Hurlstone), and cards for the second half.

Period 5 was Commerce, in which I read for pretty much the entire class. We weren’t actually doing anything; just talking about our assignments and what we need to study for the yearlies. Well, sorta; Kearney told us what topic was going to be covered. Not that much, really. Period 6 was English, and the whole class talked about a whole manner of things. Memorably, Courtney asked if Hancock was married, and he retorted ‘Why, are you proposing?’ This, of course, prompted the whole class to fall about in laughter, and Courtney didn’t help her case by saying that she was asking for Lana. We also discussed Kolodziej’s short temper (which Hancock, as him and Kolodziej are both English staff, disapproved off, but who couldn’t think of any comebacks to our telling him some examples of his temper, such as the ‘spatial awareness’ incident, and the time he broke his watch while telling off his class.), and other such random topics.

When the bell went at around 2, as it does for end of term, I walked up to the Glenfield corner shops, as I was in little rush to get home (I wasn’t avoiding it or anything, but the bus wasn’t coming for a while). I bought hot chips and a can of Solo, and wandered to the train. I got home at about 3, and got EJ from the bus stop at around 3:30. And so for most of the rest of the night, I blogged, and then played Battlefield Heroes for a while. I really enjoy this new map (Riverside Rush, for all you non-BFHers), and I participated in a strange game: one ending in 0-0. I didn't even know that was possible. The day ended soon after, and the holidays began.

And that was the last day of term. Sorry about the very late post; that will soon be explained. Although, if you want to blame my procrastination, that would work, I suppose; it is partially responsible. A third option would be to blame society. That's a great option, in my opinion. Anyway. Expect the posts for the next few days to come in soon.

Bring the holidays in,

Assignments and Assemblies

The PE assignment, specifically, and the SRC induction and the Year 12 Farewell for assemblies. I actually fairly like this title, because rather than starting with the same letter, they have the same beginning syllable (which is, um... ass.). Anyway. The whole day was pretty much a bludge, as I did essentially no work. Not counting the assignment.

Periods 1 and 2 were the Year 12 farewell. As usual, it involved several performances, such as the piano player (Hurlstone, remember?), the standard band group (doing a non-standard song; a genre change of 'Toxic' by Britney Spears to heavy rock. Or some sort of rock, in any case.), and in one twist, a group of dancers, which spontaneously changed from dancing to Indian music (could have been Pakistani or Bangladeshi; I'm no expert in this type of thing) to the dance from 'Thriller,' which was pretty good, tell you truth. They also did the standard look back on all their times in Years 7 to 12, and all the humorous things that happened. The whole thing took 2 and a half hours, which by the end meant that most people were just sitting around waiting for it to end so that we could eat. It did finish eventually. Recess was cards.

We skipped Period 3, because the Year 12 Farewell went overtime. We went straight into Period 4. That was actually yet another assembly, which, as I mentioned before, was the SRC induction. It was fairly boring, although it was interspersed with jokes, like Shane getting everybody to stand up (it was funny, trust me), and me responding under my breath to Shane saying "Welcome, parents, students and staff" (or something like that), to saying 'Sup,' which made Kevin crack up. Lunch was more cards, as well as me buying an iceblock with $5 that I had with me for some reason (it was only 50c, so I had $4.50).

Periods 5 and 6 were supposed to be PE. Instead, due to the movie arvo of which I didn't buy tickets, we were given the opportunity to go to separate classes. I went to John's. Period 5 in John's class was Science, where I played 'Hangman,' answered riddles, and wrote the Periodic Table on the blackboard for no apparent reason (people who haven't seen me do it before are usually fairly amazed. Those who have seen me do it are kinds used to it by now.). Period 6 was Geography, in which we went down to the Hall to get Carter, who was supposed to be teaching. In the actual class, we watched 'Fawlty Towers,' as I'd brought it intending to play it in Period 3, which was cancelled. We watched 'Communication Problems,' one of the best episodes which everybody in the class loved, even Carter (that may be a bit of an overstatement, considering there were 5 people in the class, including Carter and me). After the episode finished, we played 13. And when I got home, I launched pretty much straight into my PE assignment, which I finished at about 8. And for the rest of the night, I blogged, but not enough.

And that was my day. Sorry for the late post; you may see many more. I'm going to Canberra for the weekend, and whether or not I'll have internet still remains to be decided. So there may be a time when I won't be posting, though I will be writing everything down, and when I get back to Sydney, I can put it all up. Just a heads up.

It's almost the end of term,
