Cutting and Cooking

In cutting, I mean I did mowing of the lawn (I needed a thesaurus for that one; I was having difficulty), and by cooking, I really mean helping my Dad out with a barbecue. I also did other things, but working that into the title might be pushing it. Anyway. So, yeah, let's get to my day, shall we?

I got up at about 7:30, as we were going to our grandparents' place for morning tea (well, not all of our grandparents. EJ's and my grandparents, Mum's parents... Nanny and Poppa, OK?). We went because Poppa's birthday was on Wednesday, and we came over to celebrate that. I ended up bringing my cards. So we got to Nanny and Poppa's, and we (everyone except EJ) all talked about Christmas and birthday presents and that type of thing, for quite a while. We also talked about my electives, and my exams and so on. By this time, of course, EJ was bored out of his brain, with there being nobody around to play anything with (Dad and EJ are the type of people who need others around to have fun. Mum and I are the opposite, as we can entertain ourselves without company. That's not to say we don't prefer company, but... anyway.). However, soon I figured it was time to go play with EJ, who promptly beat me at chess (I'm not the greatest at chess, I'm the first to admit.). I then made up for it by beating him at cards a few times. Everything works out in the end.

When we were finished up at Nanny and Poppa's, we went shopping, or rather, I sat in the car while Mum and Dad went into Bunnings to pick up some stuff for the lawns. When we eventually did get home, we briefly got some lunch, and then we went straight into doing the lawns, as we hadn't finished from last time. So I got my iPod out, as I do almost all the time when I'm doing the lawns, and after a few hours of listening to random songs from my iPod and occasional whipper-snipper problems (aren't there always problems with that whipper-snipper? Or, with all of them. This one kept having problems with the cutting cord, of which I still have no idea as to its actual name. 'Cutting cord' is probably going to stay.), it had been done. The lawn was done, the whipper-snippering was completed; at least for another few weeks.

When that was done, it was something like 4, and I adjourned to my laptop for the first actual time for the day (isn't that crazy? First real time was at 4... Another reason for the late posting.), and soon, I had to go out and help Dad cook a barbecue. Is it hard? I wouldn't say so, although the occasional rather large tongues of fire that leapt up as a result of the fat dripping off the sausages made me somewhat nervous. Other than that, it wasn't too hard (can I just now express my love of kebabs, which was something else we also cooked. Also tacos, although that has little to do with barbecuing.). And when we had dinner and so on, I tried to post back, but it was a problem. Ah well.

And that was my day. I am trying to get back, but after the revelation that there will be more late nights (especially tomorrow; the big night, the Britney Spears concert! To say that I am excited is an understatement.), well, let's say it may be a while, though I am trying. Also, can I point out one more thing: I made it to 200,000 words. Wow. Just, wow.

Can't wait for tomorrow,

It's The Lawn

Do you enjoy bad puns? Then you'll love this one (even I think this one was terrible.). Basically, I'm referring to 'It's the law.' I was considering 'Taking the Lawn Into My Own Hands,' but that was a bit long. I didn't really feel that I wanted it. Good pun, bad title. Anyway. Let's have a look at what happened in my day. Cue the non-existent theme music!

I woke up at around 8, and played some cards with EJ, as he really wanted to play (I didn't want to disappoint him that much. I mean, I didn't mind playing.). After doing a lot of chores, I then sat down to watch a little TV, and play some more cards. Around 10, though, we were sent out to do the lawns, after a misunderstanding that we had in the game (that always seems to happen. It's probably due to the rules; they do get a bit contentious. Or, more likely, EJ and I are both equally as stubborn and absolutely sure that we are right. You know, it's probably that last one.). So I went out, getting my iPod, of course (when you're doing repetitive work that doesn't involve that much higher thinking, it's really good, if only to keep you occupied on something. Hell, I've listened to my iPod when brushing my teeth on at least one occasion. Note: attempting to sing while brushing your teeth does not work.), and I went to whipper-snipper the front lawn. And then we got onto the back lawn, which we were supposed to do next weekend, but we did it anyway. It saves us doing it later. Halfway through, though, the whipper-snipper ran out of wire to cut with, so Dad just went up to the shops to get new ones, so I finished off the actual mowing. Then it started raining (it sorta seemed like that type of day).

At that point, though, I had finished the mowing, and when Dad got back, he pretty much said that because it was raining, we were done. And so, seeing that we were done, I figured I could finally get some study for the School Certificate in. Of course, you can't study too well for English (you have to be good at writing and comprehension and so on, not actually know stuff. It's even more skills-based than Maths.), so I did study for Science, going over all the Year 9 stuff. I think I am ready for the exam. So, when I was done, I watched a new series that Dad had just bought the first two seasons of, 'Two and a Half Men.' May I say that it is hilarious? I think I can. It is very funny. I then blogged, although I didn't catch up. Damn. Ah well. So, here I am.

Let us now reply to comments, with one by Mango, who has been commenting a bit recently. Thanks, Mango!
*Mango: Yeah, yeah, I know. I really gotta charge it more often. I tend to let it run out of battery first; I'm not entirely sure why.

That was my Sunday. Trying to catch up, and failing. Trust me here, I'm giving it a shot. It just doesn't seem to be working. Soon though, soon. Anyway. Tomorrow is the English and Science School Certificate tests, and whether or not they count for anything, I'm still gonna try to get good in them. Well, obviously.

Bring on the School Certificate,

We Will All Mow Together When We Mow

What a comforting fact that is to know... If you're wondering where that title came from (and I do admit, it does seem a little strange at face value), it's a take-off of a Tom Lehrer song called 'We Will All Go Together When We Go,' which you really should listen to: it's a very good song (some people don't really get Lehrer. Here's the song, at any rate.). Anyway, let's have a look at my day, as I want to try to get back to my schedule.

I was woken up at about 8:30, but for a good reason: we were having pancakes. We had maple syrup on them, but, and call me crazy here, I much prefer honey on them. And the problem with that is we only have a jar of Hurlstone honey (gotten from the country fair; it wasn't in a squeeze bottle, though. Hard to spread across pancakes, is what I'm saying here.) and a jar of creamed honey, which has the same colour and texture of, say, wood putty but according to my brother is actually quite nice (don't microwave it though. Dad tried that, and it became slop, which has same colour and smell of vomit. And taste, according to EJ.). When that was done, we went to go and mow the lawn. The whipper-snippering was done, of course, so we just went to mow it (Dad had already left for cricket by this time). The grass was short, so it didn't involve that much work, and for the most part I just listened to my iPod (do I have to tell you that it was Tom Lehrer? Really?). We finished at about 11.

When that was done, I decided to blog a bit, as Thursday's wasn't even done, on account of being at Shay's for the afternoon, which came as a surprise. So I did that, and once it was done, I decided to play some Battlefield Heroes. Well, by play, it was mostly getting a heap of screenshots, such as saluting the flag (that took a while to get right), and, in the tutorial, I finally got one of me facing a rocket at the camera while on the wing of a plane (that involved having to get in the pilot's seat, then manoeuvring the plane so that I could get on the wing, and take a screenshot as the plane is falling. I've been trying to get a screenshot like that for months now.). And when I was done, with that, I pretty much just blogged for the rest of the night, though I did get to watch an episode of 'Invader Zim' on Foxtel. Damn, I love that show.

And that was my day. At this point, I might apologise about late posts, but it might seem a bit hollow. So I'll just say that I will hopefully get back very soon. Also, I really like this title. Don't ask me why, I just do.

There is only one day left until the fourth term of school begins,

Seinfeld and Snipping

OK, not the greatest title. But today wasn't very friendly (I was going to write conducive, but I don't like to put words like that on my post. Don't ask me why.) towards titling. Ah well. By snipping, I mean whipper-snippering (it's a funny word.). Anyway. To my day.

I was gotten up at around 8:45, which is probably the latest I've gotten up for a while (I'm not sure if that's early or normal. I do know that some of my friends have gotten up at 2 in the afternoon. Now that's weird. Anyway). So I had breakfast, and eventually, while doing chores, I was called out with everybody to come help move stuff. In essentials, we've got a heap of junk at the back of our house, and Tuesday is when the council comes to pick it up. But, to save time, we were all going to move it into the garage, so we don't have to haul a gigantic amount of garbage on the one day. Well, if you can get it out of the way... At any rate, about 20 minutes in, Dad asked if I wanted to do the whipper-snippering done now and get it out of the way for later. I figured I could grab my iPod and listen while doing that (Dad, knowing me, actually suggested this. Guess he knows I love music.), so I agreed.

We then, naturally, spent 10 minutes attempting to get the actual thing working. You would think that there would just be a button on it saying 'Start.' Well, (get this), there is, but it doesn't actually start it. After some experimentation, some heavy profanity on my Dad's part, and a feared repeat of the smashed snipper (I have linked to this already, in another post, but here it is again.), we finally figured out how to do it: you hold two switches on "on" for about ten seconds, flick down a lever, then pull another lever which you have to hold down to make the actual thing go. Then, if you take your hand off the second lever for more than an instant, then you have to flick the first lever again. Is this mentioned on the whipper-snipper? No. Is it obvious? No. Anyway. We did end up getting it to work, and I thus put on Tom Lehrer. I had to replace the little clippy strings (you know, the strings you put through the whipper-snipper that are the ones that actually cut? I don't actually know what they're called.) twice. The second time, I considered calling it a day, but I figured no, considering I could do the front later, but I decided to do it. So of course halfway through whipper-snippering the front, it ran out of petrol. That's when I gave up.

By this time, it was about lunch time. And so after lunch, EJ and I watched the final episodes of 'Seinfeld.' I'm not entirely sure why they ended the show, but I do say it continued strong until the end. I also played some Battlefield Heroes, and I had fun rocketing people from up on the cliffs in Buccaneer Bay. Then, later on in the night, after EJ had gone off to bed, Mum, Dad and I watched 'Rove.' It is a very good show, I must say.

That was my Sunday. Can you believe that now we're heading into the last week of holidays? Damn, it goes quickly. Anyway. I am partially making up for the very late post of yesterday's. I mean, this is still late, but it's less late. Comparatively. Well, I'd better just end the post; I'm beginning to rant.

Halfway through the holidays,

The Neverending Workload

I refer to the book, 'The Neverending Story,' which I have never read (a book I've never read? Dun dun dah!). I wanted to reference that for yesterday's post, but I couldn't really think of anything. But I did think of something today, and this is why the title is what it is. Anyway. Today was much like yesterday, in that there were a lot of assignments and we had to do the lawns. So, let's see my day.

I got up at around 8, and I got into my assignment as quickly as I could. However, at around 11, maybe 11:30, Mum and Dad unveiled their newest additions to our lawn: a new umbrella/shade (I don't differentiate. That's why I always have my umbrella on me in summer; it gets hot), a new whipper-snipper (because the last one was incredibly damaged. If you missed the last post, I recommend reading it for an explanation and maybe some humour as well), and a new lawnmower, because I think the one that we usually use isn't actually ours. It's borrowed. So we can take it back and get rid of our one, which is also broken, and has been for a while. We were working for maybe 2 or 3 hours, fixing up what was left to be done on the lawns, and setting up for my grandmother's visit (and not Nanny. My Dad's mother, Oma, who is coming down from Toowoomba on Thursday.).

Once we'd finished the lawns, they looked pretty damn good if I do say so myself. Though I might be biased; I did want them over pretty quick. One memorable quote by my Dad about my assignment was uttered at one stage (I can't really put this in anywhere else): 'Stop playing Battleforce Wars!' He meant of course Battlefield Heroes, but he raised a fair point. Not that I'm playing it while I'm trying to get my assignment done; that would be crazy. Only late at night on the weekends when I can't be bothered thinking. Around 3:45, after some time off to do my assignment, Dad started to put some Weed & Feed (I think that's what it's called) on the lawns, and of course our dog, Mario, couldn't be there, as he will eat anything (he has eaten a rock before. He had to get surgery and everything. I might get around to telling that someday.). So EJ and I went to take him for a walk around the park. I got my iPod out, of course, and after EJ went to play on the equipment, I listened to my iPod and walked the dog. We got home at around 4:15. So for the rest of the day, I did more of my assignment (which is getting finished slowly, but surely), and towards the end of the day, I posted. But, due to all the things that have been going on, I did not get to do this post on Sunday. So here I am.

And that was my day. Sorry for the late post, and the short post, expect late posts for quite a while to come. I've got a lot of assignments and they're all calling me. Shorter posts may also become a common occurrence for a while. I'm sorry, I don't like it either, but if that's what has to happen, then that's what will happen, I'm afraid. Ah well.

I wish these assignments would get done quicker,

Working Like Crazy

Let me explain here: I've got an English assignment due on Friday that is a goddamn lot of work, and we had to do the lawns. So you can excuse me if my title isn't very good, my post is late, and/or my post is very short. Because that's why. So, without further ado, to my day.

I got up at about 8:00, and by around 10 I had finished the majority of my chores (up until then, it had been a pretty slow day). So then I ended up getting to my English assignment. After drawing up the table for the second question on Excel, I realised that, 'Holy crap, this could be a really long assignment.' Example: Literary techniques from the first Harry Potter movie that represent the odd one out. How do you do that well? I was a fair bit into the question (although not nearly enough), when it was time for the family to do the lawns, which, as you can imagine, was somewhat annoying, but it had to be done.

Mum and EJ were at cricket, so Dad did the lawnmower and I used the whipper-snipper (I almost wrote whipper-sniper. Lol.). Dad got most of the way through and I got about halfway through when the whipper-snipper began to fail. We got it working a few times, but at one point, it just gave up and died. Nothing I could do could start it again. So I gave it to Dad, who also tried. But it was to no use. Dad, then, got very angry. He hurled the whipper-snipper at the back fence at full strength, which I took as my cue to start backing away, mainly because I was worried about the prospects of danger, to say the least (petrol in whipper-snipper. Petrol is not a very friendly substance. By which I mean of course, boom.). He then started smashing the whipper-snipper against the ground, as if he was trying to beat lumps out of the grass, or trying to chop some wood that was lying there (which seemed like he misunderstood the first rule of fixing things: Make sure it's broken.). I came back hesitantly, and it turns out he was only doing it (at least partially) because he wanted a new one, and he wanted to make sure it was definitely unable to fixed (which I can safely say he achieved). Although he didn't foresee the whole petrol problem. I did the rest of the lawns.

I got back inside at around 2 or 2:30, and I then kept at my assignment. I worked until about 7, when it was time for dinner. I then went to go watch the Crows-Magpies game. Which was a really good game, although it's a pity Collingwood won, by 5 points too. I also played Battlefield Heroes for about an hour, and as my long range machine-gun ran out, I tried the shotgun. Which actually worked pretty well; better than I expected. Though I won't be trading it in for the long range, if only for the fact that I need a long range gun. I went to bed around 11:30, after posting, of course.

And seeing that there are no comments (really not surprising), that was my day. I know it's a really late post; quite frankly, I'm surprised it's not any later. And that I managed to get over 600 words. I mean, my day could be summed up as assignments and doing the lawns, but... anyway. I'll try to get Sunday's post up earlier than this one (relative to when it should be up, I mean. No time travel.), but no promises.

Bloody assignments,

A Bit of Domestic Work

Yes indeed, today was all about work at the house. I would usually say in the house (to avoid such grammatical nightmares as these), but it was mostly doing the lawns. There was also some ironing involved. That was my Sunday in a nutshell.

I woke up at 8:30 (dun dun dah! Not 8!), and I promptly went on my laptop for a while. Around 10:30, though, we all went out to do the lawns. They hadn't been done in ages (so far, in fact, I don't even want to find it in previous posts), everybody was at home and we had nothing planned, so today was a day as good enough as any. I am personally honour-bound to do the lawns, as I have a deal. It basically goes: if I do the lawns, then my magazine subscription will be extended. It sounds like blackmail if you put it that way, but it isn't. Anyway. I was in charge of whipper-snippering (that looks ridiculous in writing), and we were doing all of the lawns. I brought my iPod, which is normal when I do the lawns. I mean, I have to listen to something besides the relentless whizz of the whipper-snipper. I ended up listening to a lot of rock-type stuff, as I could hear the beat better. We worked and worked, and after hours of music, grass and machines (that is a killer name for something and I don't know what), the lawns were done. By this time, it is 1:30.

After the lawns, we had lunch, and then it was time to get on my laptop and relax for rest of the day, by which I mean, blog and go on Questionable Content. Or so I thought. Reality struck as I had to go and do some ironing while watching the Roos-Tigers game. Well, you lose some, you win some, in that order. I've already gone on a rant about ironing. I finished at about the time that the game ended, which ended with a draw after the Roos came up from being 7 goals down at half-time. The last quarter was intense. After ironing and footy was done, Dad and I dropped by the shops to get some dessert (white chocolate + White Magnum = mmm...), and I then returned to watch the last Masterchef episode. I don't really think I need to tell everybody who won, but here's the news article just in case. And after all that, I went to my room, blogged, and talked on MSN.

And since there are no comments, presumably because Ebony and Victor are on strike and the Anonymous Aeroplane hasn't been on their computer (they haven't commented on Ebony's blog either), this'll be the last paragraph. Allow me to say at this point 'Thank god!': for I have finally caught up with posts. Theoretically. I mean, I could post normally at this point. Whether I will is another matter. Anyway. That was my Sunday. And I hope there are more comments. Ah well.

Doing the lawns isn't actually that bad,
