Shop 'Til You Stop

Yes, I suppose this is a little play on words. Not as good as the other one, I think, but I still like it. It's also a bit of a tautology, which I love, because it makes you a double-take (I mean, of course you shop until you stop! Or, does the stopping rule out the until... see, stuff like that can make you think.). Anyway. Yes, it's a late post again, and I'm not going to blame anyone. Except society.

I was gotten up at around 8, as we had stuff that needed to be done in the day. At around 9, after getting ready for the day, we went out to go shopping. Now, as I so love to do, I brought my iPod. I try to put this in if I'm doing something else which doesn't involve much thinking, and more doing. In shopping, for example, all I really did was walk around. So I decided to get out my iPod, and listen to who other than Tom Lehrer. Soon I will probably become bored of it, like I did with Queen (that's not to say that it will become bad, but I'll be able to sing all of it off by heart, and something else will come along. Still good, though: I'm not saying Queen is bad, god no. Queen is epic.). So for something like one and a half hours, I walked around, mouthing the words of many songs, getting strange looks from at least one person, possibly others. But I only noticed the one person (most people don't seem to understand, I've noticed, me mouthing the words. I figure that I love to sing along, but I'm a bad singer. So I compromise. Anyway.). We got home at about 10:30.

When I did get home, I decided I would play some Battlefield Heroes, as I hadn't played any at all yesterday. I played for about one or two hours. In one memorable occasion, the top three players in the National team (I was one of them) towered above the rest, getting a total of 42 kills (42! It lives!) and 10 deaths, and over 7000 points. Yes, we won that round. I got 15-2, and one of those was a double death, in that the guy I was shooting and I both died at the same time. I finished up at about lunch time, and after that, I worked a little on Scratch and watched TV. At around 3, we had to move the garbage that we moved into the garage on Sunday out to the front yard for the council to pick up. Then, Mum told us something: the council would only pick up so much (it's by volume, not by mass). It was slightly annoying, but partially understandable. I say partially because if we had just a little more (or so I was told), then they wouldn't pick it up. And they only have two pick-ups a year. Is that a little ridiculous? Yes. Anyway. So we put down what we could, and the rest was taken back around to behind the house. And so essentially the rest of the night, I blogged, as well as doing some study (yes, it begins. The yearlies start on the second day back, after all.).

Comments now, 1 from Ebony.
*Ebony: By you, I meant the hypothetical you who gets up at 2 in the afternoon, who I still say is crazy. And only a small amount of talking to Victor? I would have guessed it'd be a lot (lol). Also iPod listening is not time wasting. Garbage moving did serve a purpose.

And that was my day. It does seem that comments are starting up again, doesn't it? Although this time around, I won't take them for granted. Also, I'm messing with titles a bit, as I'm trying to avoid using alliteration. I hope it's working.

Maybe it's the stopping that makes the 'until' redundant, though it's still confusing,

AC In The Hole

OK, now this is a good title, in my opinion. I do love plays on words, so much. In case you're wondering, AC means air conditioner and not the person who used to comment on my posts. An alternate title was 'AB and AC,' but I decided not because that was awful. Also, yes, it's a late post extraordinaire. I have noone to blame but myself. Or, society.

I got up at around 8:30. I wasn't woken up per se, but I was lying in bed in that state of being awake, yet barely moving and having little incentive to do so (actually that's what mostly happens on holidays...). Anyway, I was told to get up, and I did. Dad had already left for cricket, and Uncle Jason had arrived at our house. He had come to install our air conditioner, as ours is broken (right when summer is coming, too), and, by a happy coincidence, he works as an air conditioner installer (or at least, that's part of what he does. He does install them, at any rate.). So after breakfast and so on, I went to see what he was doing, and ended up, somehow, looking inside the roof of our own house.

It was a novelty, certainly. What it is, if you can imagine, is a large, fairly empty and dark space, with a point for the roof. There are numerous wooden beams spanning the emptiness, and there is padding on the floor of the ceiling (if that makes sense). We (Mum, Uncle Jason and I; EJ was doing barely anything) then spent quite a while putting wires and pipes through holes (twice I put them through minuscule holes which they could barely fit through without even meaning it with apparent ease, but had trouble putting them through normal holes. Oy vey.). We worked on it until around 11-ish, when we went to get morning tea. After that, Uncle Jason went outside to actually install the machine that cools the room, and EJ and I had to take Mario for a walk down at the park, just to get him out of the way. So we did that for about 30 minutes (give or take), and then we came home. And so for the rest of the night, I pretty much just did some Scratch and played Battlefield Heroes. It never gets old.

To comments, but first some retro (as in retroactive) comments from Thursday's post.
*Shafi: Well, OK... first, there's no vehicles, and so it's harder to get around (it's bigger than Victory Village.). There are also some really good strategic points, and there's a lot of obstacles. It's hard to actually explain it; you really should play it.
*Shafi: I have no idea; and a Dell Inspiron 1520.
*Ebony: Hmm... maybe. I will have to keep that in mind for a possible future title.
Now, comments from last post.
*Shafi: Umm... what?

And that was my day. Sorry about the incredibly late post; I'm trying to get back to normal here. But, it doesn't seem to be working. I guess I'll just have to try harder. Anyway. Soon I will, actually, get up and get back on track. But no promises when.

I do so love puns,

Airports and Assignments

Yes, it's another title (with alliteration, mind you) that has "Assignments" in it; the second in not even one and a half weeks. Ah well. These things are inevitable sometimes. Hopefully soon, better titles may arise, though it depends on what happens in the day. Also, earlier posts, although let's not go nuts here.

I was woken up at around 8:30, yet again. I hope one day to just sleep. Ah well. These things happen. After getting ready for the day, I figured that I had to get the experimental part of my Science assignment some time, and today was as good as any. So I started off by trying to figure out an experiment in which I would be able to measure my face relative to a mirror, while being at least 50 cm away from the mirror at all times. I ended up sticking bits of tape to the mirror 5 cm apart, then checking how high my face was relative to the bits of tape. Then the hard part came in, and I had to convince EJ to be at least slightly cooperative, so I could measure the reflection of his face. I did make it work, thankfully, and I thus completed Parts A and B of my assignment.

When I'd finished that, I decided to reinstall Battlefield Heroes, just in case it actually did have a virus. However, Trend Micro said that the new one also had a virus (and of course it didn't; think what that would imply. EA Games is a worldwide company.). So I had to spend over 20 minutes attempting to get it to shut up, which it eventually did. When that was all sorted out, I played BFH for a while, as I was able to without it messing up on me. That did get boring eventually, however, so I went on Scratch, and continued with the Monopoly game I was attempting to make. Then, later, after doing some more gaming and TV and what-not, Mum, EJ and I went to the airport to pick up Dad.

I brought my DS, and EJ and I played some games on it in the car waiting to pick Dad up, as he was flying to Sydney. We drove around for a while, and we eventually found Dad in a carpark. On the ride back to home, I read some, using my iPod as a torch. Call me many things, but unresourceful I am not. And when I got home, we talked to Dad, and I blogged about Thursday.

And that was my day. Yeah, it's a late post, but you've gotta be used to this. That, or you're new to my blog, in which case, welcome to AB: A Blog! Anyway. Soon I'll get back up to schedule; that is, if I can avoid procrastination.

This makes it 7 days of holidays,

Lounging Around

How can you title posts when you barely do anything at all in the day? Answer: not well. So I wrote something that expresses the "barely-anything-ness" that I did throughout the day, as well as signifying the fact that I stayed in the lounge room for the majority of the day. Probably the best I could do under the circumstances. Anyway. To my Thursday.

I was woken up at 7:30, though I think mainly because everyone else was already up (that can be very annoying sometimes). EJ had already gotten breakfast, so he went into the lounge room. By a happy coincidence, 'Family Guy' was on at the time. EJ can't watch it, but as he was in another room, I was able to watch the whole episode. I do love to do that. However, when I was done, I did go into the lounge room, where I was able to put on 'Seinfeld.' We're on the last season, and as far as I can see, it's still going as strong as ever. Not like some shows where you can really see the quality begin to slip ('3rd Rock from the Sun' sadly comes to mind; I never watch the last season. It's just not that good. Seasons 1 to 5 are still pretty good though.). While in the lounge room, EJ got me to play Monopoly. That went for about an hour, after which there was a mutual agreement of boredom. The game just starts to get dull after a while, and slightly repetitive. I reckon it's better with more than two people, although I haven't done that in ages.

After the game, I went on some Scratch. I am going to try to make a game of Monopoly on Scratch from scratch (no pun intended). It's hard, but I reckon it's possible without being almost incurably difficult, unlike chess. I took a break from that, however, once it got a bit boring. So I went to play some Battlefield Heroes. I ran into some problems though: Trend Micro (our antivirus software) got a bit temperamental, and started to stop me playing BFH for more than one round at a time. Oy vey. I don't think it has a virus, but I'll have to make sure. At about 2, after some lazing around, Mum burst in the door from work. What had evidently happened (and with the benefit of hindsight, I can tell you) was this: EJ had the phone in his jacket pocket, and he got hot, and he threw it onto the jacket. The phone landed on the 'ring' button, making the line busy and thus making it impossible for anyone to call. Mum then called up, and started freaking out because she couldn't get on. Ah well. I don't think it was anyone's fault, but just one of those things that happens. Later, I blogged, and attempted to play some more BFH, though it was still messing up. I also did not get to post about today, so here I am.

Comments now, 1 from the Anonymous Aeroplane.
*Anon: Thanks, and Riverside Rush is a very different map. You really need to get used to it. Thanks also for the orange belt thing, and to top it all off: mmm, oranges...

And that was my day. Sorry for the very late post, that will be explained yesterday if I can remember it, and I damn well better. Also, I will attempt to improve on schedules and so forth; you've heard this all already. You know what I'm gonna say.

A return of comments, perhaps,

Half-Yearlies '09: Science

Well, with Science down, that's only Maths left. In unrelated matters, Ebony and Victor have agreed to end their boycott of my comments section, revealing reasons that are devious, harsh and fair all in one. I will get to this. They said they would start commenting tomorrow, but thankfully I got comments today. In yet more, even more pointless news, I am still to make a theme song. I will make one when I get bored (luckily, I wrote a program on Scratch a while back that lets me write music. But don't expect a miracle.). Now, to Tuesday. And yes, I will stop doing this 'news' thing.

Period 1 was Maths, which was doing some revision work on algebra. Pretty straight-forward stuff. We also did some Science study, as per usual. Next was Drama, which finally was a prac lesson that was actually Drama, and not walking around with our eyes closed. We did it in our groups (so me with Ebony, Amy, Pradeepti and Rutherford), and we were making a play. We were doing 'Something Supernatural.' It ended up being a voodoo thing, with Rutherford playing the doll (his idea), Pradeepti being the witch doctor, also known as 'Lady Charcoal' (her idea), me being the person being 'voodooed' on because Ebony put Lady Charcoal up to it because I was cheating on her with Amy (Pradeepti, Pradeepti and Pradeepti). We spent a while working out the basic storyline, and with 10 minutes to go we all went inside, and started on our mini-plays. Cameron's group was first, which was a bus trip. That was pretty funny. We were next (thanks to Pradeepti volunteering), but we only got through 30 seconds before the bell went. Saved by the bell.

Recess was 13, as usual. That was good. I like 13. Period 3 was Commerce, which was studying for Science. Thank god Kearney let us. That was too short a period, because it was time for the Science half-yearly. I spent most of the time in 'go,' with a short amount of time in 'ready.' All in all, it was like any other Science exam: 10 multiple choice, 5 short-answers, and a few extended responses. Most of the things they examine us on are fairly straight-forward, but inevitably I stuff up at least one small thing, that gets noticed immediately after the exam. This one was alkane instead of hydrocarbon, which in hindsight was obvious. Ah well. But apart from that, I think I did OK. I'll just have to see when I get it back.

Lunch was, for the first 5 minutes, the Science exam. Actual lunch was first managing to arrange some people to play 13: and then noticing that the cards are not in my bag or in my pocket. So I get everyone together before I find the cards are gone. This is my luck. I pulled apart my bag twice, asked the Science teachers and checked the bin (I have no idea why), all to no avail. I then set upon looking around the school (those are my good cards), and then came across it in Room 10, where I had Commerce. When I finally got back with the cards to play 13, the half-time bell went. Oy vey. The second half was 13, which was your average play, with Kevin, Andy, Victor and Shafi (John wasn't here.).

Period 5 was English, which was looking through more of 'Macbeth,' and specifically the part when Macbeth has just killed Duncan, so the end of Scene 2. That was a bit of a bludge. Last was History, which was watching a DVD (finally!) of the Stolen Generation, and taking notes. That was also a bludge, as all video-watching classes are. When the bell went, and after I got home, I did some Maths homework, and then went on MSN. After a few minutes of pleading, Victor and Ebony unveiled their master plan: they would comment if they got some alone time. Now, that is reasonable, but I have one thing wrong with it (not with the idea, but the strike). One, they never actually asked me to stop, and I have told them they can just tell me to go away and I will. Really, that's two things, but who cares. My point remains valid. Hopefully they can get back to commenting.

Speaking of which, it's time for comments, and thanks to occasional begging I did, I got two comments. I don't like no comments (though, I do realise they're not crucial. I still want them though.).
*Karen: There is no 'should' read my blog, though, I'm actually not sure anymore how many people actually read it. And my blog is more of a 'memory extension,' as well as a vent. I can go any day from February 10 2009 and see exactly what I was doing. And we all like 13 (though we have been known to play 31 and Speed, and we used to play poker every now and then). I don't actually know what leaf I tasted, Ebony just said 'eat it.' I'll hand it to her, she's very persistent. And I stick by the fact that I'm weirder. I take pride in it.
*Kevin: I never liked Computer Maths on Excel, I always like the Sketchpad lessons. They're the best. I hope I did well on Ag, and I think I did well on Science. We'll have to see. And our group sucked at the coil, I'm not 100% sure why. We just did. Ah well. Win some, lose some.

Well, that was my Tuesday. I don't have any exams tomorrow, thank god, and Thursday is the last one. I'll enjoy the end of them, as it means I can get back to semi-bludging without studying getting in the way. There will be much work on my book, reading, and doing random things for no particular reason. Hooray!

7 down, 1 to go,

Cards, Comments and Craziness

Yes, today was all about cards, comments and craziness. I will get to all of that as it comes. (I don't want to write an opening paragraph). And I apologise for the lateness; I'll explain that when I get to tonight.

Jo drove me to school, and when the bell went, I went to Science. We had another new teacher (where do they find these people), and I spent almost the entire period working. On a Friday! Next was computer Maths, where I got to bludge, sort of. I mean, it was work, but not stressful work. Play dressed up like work. Recess was 13, in which we did crazy things like flipping the entire deck so everybody could see the cards dealt (a bit like an uber-flip rule.). Assembly was cancelled, so we played for something like an hour. I didn't do that well. By the end, though, we had an audience of Corinne, Cameron, Ian, you name it. Next was Ag, which was more preg testing. Believe me, I would have done it, if I had had the stomach. But I don't, so I didn't. I can't say I regret not doing it, but it would have been an experience to do it. So the entire 2 periods (for it was a double) I spent doing work, listening to some of Pink Floyd (and wondering how long it takes for 'Shine On, You Crazy Diamond' to get to the vocals. About 7 and a half minutes, if you're wondering.), and playing 13 (yes, more 13) with Tan, Allan, Oishi and Nancy, with Hewie watching. Which was pretty good, though not as good as with the people from the group. Next was Lunch. I ran up to the English Cottage as soon as so I could get my Drama marks, but it's closed at first half. So at the table we played '8,' for some reason, which is the rules of 13 with 6 players (Andy, John, Victor, Kevin, Eric and me), so 8 cards a person. We also played some '2,' basically the same thing but with 2 cards, and even '1,' which went as you would have expected. Then in second half we actually played some 13. It was insane and awesome (note I didn't say 'but awesome.' Subtle difference.). I also went up to the English cottage again, but Kolodziej was in a meeting. Which seemed a bit suss. But, when the bell went, so did I, to the English cottage, to corner Kolodziej so he could give me my marks. Lana and Rachel were there too. I ended up getting 18/20, which is pretty good, if I do say so myself (and I do!). A load off from all the panic and stress. If I had only cut the performance down by about a minute (it was a minute under when I timed it). Anyway. In English we did essentially nothing except talk, and I read of course. Lastly for the week was History, which was answering questions, as usual. And when I got home, I commented on Victor's blog (numerous times), surfed the net, watched TV and went on Scratch. Right now I'm listening to Queen (as usual) and blogging, and going on MSN. As well as trying to solve a puzzle. I completed it, then EJ messed it up. Bugger. I got all distracted, that's why I'm posting late.

Now the comments, and there were only 3 yesterday (and that's with Victor getting 10 in 1 post. Although, I have 3 individual commenters. He comments on his own blog.). So I'll go into more detail with them, if I can.
*AC: First, that's amazing. You beat Victor (lol)! With that girl thing, I think I'm getting better at it. Slightly. I hope. But, slowly and surely. I do have good teachers, and Kearney isn't that bad, but he still annoys me with this constitution crap and the standing up. And with Toby, Javery and Matt Prior in one class, it is hard to control, for anyone. And to that Queen thing: I had an off day. My bad (lol). And please comment on every post. You are that awesome.
*Victor: Yes, you are second. Now you know how it feels! And don't give yourself a -1. -1s are for me and me only! On your blog, -1s are all I get, so dammit, I best collect them. My -1s!
*Ebony: Yes, panic and stress breed off worry over assessments. And you'll do great, yours was awesome. Victor commenting on his own blog is, I agree, cheating, and should be stopped. But, that's his prerogative (I learnt that word from Britney Spears, who used to be my favourite musician/s. But Queen has taken that title now.). And it's all true for that Science teacher, he was freaky. And thanks for the good luck, I'll need it.

Well, such was my Friday. The weekend beckons, and I need a few days to sit down. Oh wait, I can't because of my assessment. And homework. And possibly short story. Maybe the holidays. Hopefully I don't get much. Hopefully.

I want to relax for a day (but my hopes aren't high),

Saturday at Star City

Specifically, the Star City hotel in Sydney. If you're wondering why, it's my friend Shay's mum Jo's birthday, and we're celebrating by having a stay in the Star City hotel. With that in mind, let's see about my day.

I woke up at 7:45, and had breakfast. Unfortunately, after my Dad left for AFL with my brother, I had to mow the lawn. In the rain. However, after 15 minutes of attempting to start the mower, it eventually failed, so I didn't have to do it. All's well that ends well, I suppose. However, I had to pack the dishwasher and do homework. But, it's better than mowing the lawn, I suppose. I also finished a Scratch project I’ve been working on that generates coastlines. I know, I get bored. But it took a while and I’m really pleased with the end result. I’ll upload it once I’ve fine-tuned it. After a while, my Dad and my brother got home, and it was time to go to Star City.

First we drove to the hotel, and we got valet parking. My Mum started drooling over a Ferrari, so my Dad got a picture taken. We got a lift up to our apartment, and so we had a look around. Ours are on the 9th floor, and Shay's family is on the 10th floor. They look exactly the same, except for the pictures on the wall. On ours, they're Picasso-y, abstract paintings (I hate those), and theirs are good paintings that actually look like something. We went down to Darling Harbour and got an ice-cream (I got a strawberry one in a waffle and Belgian chocolate cone. *drools*), and checked out the restaurant where we ate tonight (the obviously named Meat and Wine Cafe.). After that, we went back to the hotel, and went to swim in the pool. We (me, EJ, Shay and Lachlan) played Marco Polo and played double-decker fighting (where someone gets on someone else's shoulders). Then we got changed, and went up to Shay's apartment. I went on my laptop (we have internet access), and I read. Then after a while it was time for dinner. We went down to the Meat and Wine Cafe, and I had this delicious Hawaiian Burger. Pineapple, cheese, bacon, beef, lettuce, all on one bun with chips and onion rings on the side, with a big glass of Lift thrown in as well. It was delicious. Sadly, I could not eat it all. If only. Once that was finished, we got bored for a bit, then discovered there was paper on the table. I got a pencil out of my pocket (why I had one in there is a very good question), and so we started drawing on the table. That was more fun than it actually seems. We drew sketches, wrote stuff, etc. We also had fun with electric candles. They actually didn’t have candles, just electric lights. That was cool, because we spent ages playing with them without getting burnt. That was also really fun. Then we walked back to the hotel, with the parents singing Elton John and Michael Jackson all the way. Yes, they had had a few drinks. We got back to the apartment, changed into our pyjamas (that is a weird word. Seriously, it starts with p-y-j. OK, that was random.), and settled down while the parents went to the casino. We put on a movie, which was ‘Don’t Mess With The Zohan’ (I love that movie), and I went on my computer. And here I am. I’m actually blogging this on a Word document, because Blogger is messing up on me. No other websites though. Hmm.

OK, if I may be permitted a quick side note: No longer am I going to be blogging this late again, with any luck. Twice in a short period I’ve had to blog the following morning because I’ve been interrupted or I’ve left it until late. So now I’m going to try to do what I used to: Blog about the previous night the following morning. Moving on…

And that was today. A long day, but a very good one. Tomorrow look like it's gonna be a good day, before the big week and That Dreaded Day (it strikes again).

Dancing, Scratch and Megatokyo

You may have read that title and thought WT7? How are any of those things related? And the answer is that they all played a fairly large part on Friday the 13th (which went pretty smoothly).

My Dad drove me to school, etc, etc, you know the drill. Period 1 was Agriculture, which was writing stuff down in our books, NTR (No Thought Required). Next came Geography, in which we went up to the library for the second or third period running, but we didn't take any notes. Just watching, talking. A nice little break from work at school. Next came Assembly, in which I got very cramped up (too many people, not enough space), and worked out exactly what I have on Tuesday the 24th:

Period 2: Geography Assessment and Glenfield School Reading
Period 5: Drama Assessment and PE Assessment

As you can see, that is a big problem. To say the least. Will they change it around, who knows? Great work, Hurlstone. Genius. And, to top it all off, for PE, there's not enough time to do it in class, so we have to give up lunch times, after-school times, I'm even doing some stuff tomorrow. On Saturday. Oy. Anyway, Recess was an hour, in which it rained, and we talked about everything from how other people looked in my glasses to how far back I can put my eyes (answer to both: very weird and almost all the way). Maths was Period 3, which was about 10 minutes for some reason, and involved little work. Science followed, and was doing an experiment with hydrogen peroxide and fire. No theory, just experiment. Lunch was doing some dancing (part 1 of title) in Room 6, with Oishi and Nancy, for just over an hour. Then I went to the music room with everyone, and we did some music (of course). Period 5 was Commerce, which involved more theory, *sigh*. The only good thing about Commerce in Period 5 is that I don't finish the day with it. English was a bludge, doing 10 minutes of work and subsequently reading a Bill Bryson book and attempting not to burst out laughing, with limited success (I was reading Bill Bryson: I probably should have seen that coming.). Thus ends school, but not Friday. I got home, and after a while I went on the Scratch website (part 2 of title), and I realise I've been featured on the Scratch site. That means that my project (specifically this one) has been considered one of the best on the Scratch site. That was exhilarating. But, the day still wasn't finished. Through thine computerised information god Wikipedia, I got onto a comic called Megatokyo, which is really good. Would I be so forward to say it is better than xkcd and Dinosaur Comics? Which is really saying something. Oh, and today, I don't really have a song stuck in my head. Ah well.

Now, that ends Friday, or the better part of it. I shall blog, as always, tomorrow. I might say comment again, but yesterday's were pretty random. But, fun. Somebody is reading. Comment!

Friday the 13th isn't as bad as Tuesday the 24th,
AB
