Recommendations and Removals

The recommendation refers to a sheet we were given in Role Call, which will be explained in the following paragraph, and a little quickly. 'Removals' may refer to quite a few things, including the fact that I was taken out of school to go to the orthodontist. So, let us examine how these two seemingly unrelated (and indeed, almost entirely unrelated) things played their part in my day.

Before school, we had Role Call, and sheets were given out, saying that we were to nominate people for various categories, and the winners of these were to get sashes at the formal. Some examples were best sportsman, most likely become to become Prime Minister and best hair (why, Victor of course.). But, there was one that stuck out for me. Near the bottom, it was, and just two words: Biggest Nerd. Now, as you can guess, this was a big thing for me, and I made a resolution to win it. So in the next period, which was History, most of the class watched 'Man vs Wild,' while I took some spare paper, cut them up into cards, then wrote 'Vote AB for Biggest Nerd' on them (you know what they say: if something's worth doing, it's worth overdoing.). When we got out of History, I promptly started handing out these cards to random people, in the hope that I would win it. In Period 2, in English, we got our report results back from Hancock, and I got, I'm happy to say, all As (as in the plural of 'A,' not the word 'as.'). That should certainly make up for my C in the middle of the year (damn the half-yearly. Damn it.). Recess was taking pictures on my phone (which I believe I am keeping), and trying to get one of a lot of people (Aleksa, a Year 8 or 9 who hangs with us sometimes, was camera-shy for some reason.).

Period 3 was Science, and we had Pitt instead of Robson, even though Robson was here (it was something to do with marking HSCs and Physics classes; I wasn't entirely sure. But, we had him regardless.). In it, we first talked a little about the LHC (when he asked what it was, I wasn't allowed to answer. Mainly because I knew a lot about it already, including a basic understanding of how it works and what it hopes to achieve, with supersymmetry and Higgs bosons and so on.), and then we started doing measurements for height against armspan (are they actually equal? Is it just an old wives' tale? We shall see.). It was then Lunch, where I played DS (yes, I brought it to school.) and messed around with the phone on my camera, where I finally got a snap of Aleksa. It was funny.

When the bell went, I went over to the office, because I had to get checked out in order to go to the orthodontist. I was picked up at around 1:30, and Mum and I promptly got EJ and made our way over to Liverpool. After having a look at some stuff, we went to the orthodontist, and I was ready to have my elastics put in. Or so I thought. Instead, they decided to take my expander out, which involved removing some of the actual braces, scraping the concrete-like stuff that stuck them to my teeth off, then removing the expander, then putting back whatever they had taken out in order to remove the expander (so, the concrete, the braces, and so on.). It took about 30 minutes, and when I got out, I could feel the top of my gums. Later, at around 7:15, we left for hapkido.

Grandmaster Geoff was here, and we were piled 5 to a row all the way down to the back of the dojang, which appears to be what is going to happen more often on Wednesdays (I personally think that they've messed up the system a little, but that's just what I think.). In the actual class, I was partnered with Tim, a white belt whose name I only remember because it was in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' (that's nothing against the guy, I'm just shocking at remembering names.). I did some work on techniques, and all in all it was a good class. And when I got home, I blogged a little, although quite obviously not enough to catch up.

This was my day. I apologise for the continued lateness, but, believe it or not, I am trying to get it back to normal. Quite frankly, I'm just surprised I can remember it all. Ah, the awesome power of the human brain. Or, something like that.

Goodbye expander, hello gums,

Spacers and Shoppers

Me, I was the shopper! As well as my Mum. We also went to the orthodontist, and put spacers in. So, explanation there. I tried thinking of plays on words and other alliterative titles, but there's not a lot you can do with the word 'orthodontist' (I did consider 'or the dontist,' but it didn't work out too well.). Anyway. Let's have a look at my day, as I really try to get really back on schedule.

I woke up at around 7:15, as I wasn't going to school today and so didn't have to wake up early. It wasn't because we weren't doing anything at school and so why bother, nor was it to do with me going to the concert (the awesome concert, mind you) yesterday, but rather that I had an appointment at the orthodontist (so, the other two reasons were related, but not directly. The appointment was when it was because I would be otherwise going to school and do nothing because I wasn't going to school and do nothing because I wasn't going to camp because of the concert. Just wanted to get that out of the way.). So I got my stuff, and Mum and I soon headed over to Liverpool shops.

We first went and dropped Mum's car off for a service, and then walked to Westfields, where we wandered around the shops. We first stopped by 'Toys R Us' (and I would have made a backwards R there if I could, but I can't, at least without an inordinate amount of effort. Yes, I use the word 'inordinate.') to find stuff that we could get for various Christmas presents (I know, we've started to think about that already, and there is over a month to go. But, jees, the year goes quickly. I mean, it's already halfway through November.). We had a look at the computer games (for want of a better classification. DS games and PS3 games and such.) and looked amongst the board games, and around some other toys and games (did you know they still make Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon cards? I saw them in the shops and I was somewhat shocked.). After that, we both went to the orthodontist for my appointment.

I got in, and watched the TV for a few minutes before I was called in for the actual appointment. I laid down on the bed, awaiting whatever it was they were going to do. 30 seconds later, they said they'd finished. Blink and you would have missed it. Turns out they only put spacers in (very similar to the ones from this post, although I'm assuming they won't hurt as much, due to my jaw already being partially used to them. Hopefully.). It was very quick (that's what she said!), and I have to come back on Wednesday (not tomorrow, a week from tomorrow), I think to put elastics on. But don't quote me.

After we got out of the orthodontist's, we went back into Westfields, where we went to get my suit for the formal (buying it is apparently cheaper than hiring it, even just for one night, which makes no sense but there you go). I had some choice in the matter, in that the attendant and Mum picked various suits, shirts and ties, and I said yes or no. Probably for the best, as otherwise it wouldn't turn out too well, which it eventually did. We then went down to the bus stop, and rode the bus home, getting to home at about 12:30. And so, for essentially the rest of the day, I went on 'Fantastic Contraptions' and blogged.

And that was my day. Sorry for the late post, I am really trying to get back up, believe me. It's annoying me like hell, but I persevere. I swear I will get back up to date soon. Maybe on a weekend where I'm doing absolutely nothing.

The saga of my teeth continues,

Muck-Up Day '09

Yes, it's that day which Year 12s revel in and all others dread: the muck-up day. Norris wants us to call it a "Fun Day" for no real reason, but I refuse to call it that. So muck-up day it is. Anyway. I will be recounting what the Year 12s did and how I avoided or attempted to avoid them, as well as a lot of other things that happened. It was a really packed day.

Before school, I put my umbrella in my pocket, which at first may seem like a bad idea, but you have to remember that this is Year 12s we're talking about, and they really like water balloons. So I got into the school, and had to pay admission (I had no money, so I did push-ups. Hapkido counts for something, because 10 seemed easy.). Period 1 was Science, in which Robson got us to put our bags inside. Probably for the best. Anyway. What we did was check the effects of acceleration with trolleys and masses and stopwatches; it's sorta hard to really explain it. Fun, though. Period 2 was Computer Maths, where we had goes at making pendulums on Geometer's Sketchpad (now, is that awesome or what!). Once I'd figured out how to do it (it involves the x coordinates of points going around circle and arcs connected to the point and so on. It's a lot easier shown than explained.), I messed around with other points making the pendulum go quicker or swing more. Pretty fun, to a nerd that is. Recess was spent mostly avoiding the water balloon onslaught; and the Year 12s were prepared. They had whistles (to coordinate attacks) and a seemingly endless supply of balloons. It was incredible.

Periods 3 and 4 were double Ag, and the whole class went down to the cow sheds to weigh the cows, or something. It wasn't made entirely clear. Most of the class did essentially nothing, and I was included in that majority. I ended up getting out my iPod and playing Solitaire while listening to Tom Lehrer. Ah, good times. We even finished our prac time early, so I was able to get out my cards and play 13 with Tan and Chris and Alan. Ah, I do love cards in class. Lunch was actually spent relatively free from the onslaught of the Year 12s, as most of them were down playing a rugby game with some of the teachers. Now, me being the AFL fan, I gave it a miss, and spent most of the time talking and playing cards.

Period 5 was English, and when I got to the class (we had changed rooms so we could go on the computers), there was nobody there but the teacher. There was a trickle in, as students gradually found the class, but even so there was only about 10 towards the end. So I spent most of the time looking at some other School Certificate papers such as Maths and Science, and surfing Wikipedia. It's fun doing that. Period 6 was History, in which we found out exactly what happened: the Year 12s had taken the sign off the door saying where the class was going. So simple, yet so diabolical. In the actual class, we just watched a video. However, afterwards, it was time to try to get to the station, which in Muck-Up Day is always difficult. And today's was one of the worst I'd seen. But I did get through, after sprinting past Year 12s, ducking and weaving through the splashes of water balloons, and the dash to the stairs, umbrella up. I think I got a few drops. It was great. And when I got home, it was almost straight to the orthodontist.

We got there at about 3:45, and we were out by around 4:30. In that time, I was able to read, and get a new wire put through the braces on my top teeth. I also got my jaw expanded with the expander, as has to be done from time to time. Although, it was business as usual apart from that. When I did get home, and after spending time getting ready, we had to go basically straight to EJ's school for his play.

OK, this I didn't really see coming, though I probably should have. When we got in there, while Mum and I were waiting, we listened to the songs about sailing and the sea and boats and so on that they played over the speakers (including, on one notable occasion, 'Seven Seas of Rhye' by Queen), as well as Sudoku on Mum's phone. However, it was soon time to see EJ's play, and I will say that while the plot was a bit odd (OK, it was bloody strange), the acting was really good. They also sang one song 4 or 5 times, which mostly consisted of the words 'Seven Seas' repeated over and over. Jees. Anyway. We got home late, and I was able to post. But not this one, as I was late. So here I am.

To comments now, one from one person.
*Mango: Fair enough, but just next time, read up first. Also, warn me when you're doing a comment for posts past, I'm just lucky I caught that one.

And that was my day. Sorry for the really late post, but everything you just read got in the way, as well as hapkido and assignments on Wednesday. It's annoying, sometimes, I know, but after things get done, the schedule will hopefully resume.

I can't wait until our grade's muck-up day,

Bludges and Braces

My titling remains on its plateau of uncreativity. Well, I suppose it's not the title, but rather the post. Still, annoyance. I'll work on improving them. But, yeah, there was bludging today, and I went to the orthodontist for my braces. So, to my day.

Before school, I listened to Hamish & Andy on my iPod, as I haven't done that for a while. They are pretty funny. Period 1 was Science, in which we did an experiment on velocity. What we did is that we went to the main quad, and I measured out 50 m using the trundle wheel (I love using that thing, and I'm not entirely sure why.). We then got Rhys to walk the course, with people recording times every 10 metres, so we can get a rough estimate of how fast he was walking. Then, the same with Corinne, except she ran it. Next period we'll take the times and graph them. Period 2 was Computer Maths, in which we got theorems for circle geometry from Years 11 and 12, and then we were supposed to try to prove them on Geometer's Sketchpad. We also got the results of the Maths test that I did on Friday back. I got 37/40. I made some silly mistakes, but I'm happy with my mark. Recess was 13. I was very annoyed, with me getting a triple two and losing. Goddamn.

Periods 3 and 4 were Ag, and for most of the first period, we went back down to the farm to finish up preparing the soil for our potatoes. However, only a few of us were needed to do it, so I spent the time playing Solitaire and listening to music from my iPod. It's always fun. When we got back to the class, we did a few presentations, with Courtney and Andrew giving the class some goat cheese (it tasted just like regular cheese, except it had a slight tang about it. Slightly salty and sour. And I could swear I smelt goat, but nobody else could.), and Allie's was a video instead of a Powerpoint. On the goats that were back at her farm. And hers was good. I mean, really good. Lunch was talking and cards.

Period 5 was English, in which we talked about the new topic that we started, which is 'Odd One Out,' and how we have areas of study in Years 11 and 12. I got a little too enthusiastic, though, when Hancock asked if anyone had seen 'Life of Brian,' and I, very loudly, called out 'Yes!' I didn't mean too, of course, but it happened. He was mentioning the scene where Brian calls out 'You're all individuals!' And it was hilarious, of course. Just watch it: it's one of the funniest movies of all time, in my opinion. Maybe even the funniest. We also got our speech marks back. I got 19/20, which is more than I expected. How fickle English marks are. Period 6 was History, in which we got an assignment. That's two in two days; and just when I thought I was getting over them. Bugger. Luckily, it doesn't seem that hard. And when I got home, we got something to eat, and then we went straight back out again, as I had to go the orthodontist. They were installing the metal part (I'm not sure what it's called, but it's the metal thing that goes right on your tooth, not the wire.) on a tooth that was still coming through, as well as the general tune-up. When I got home, I listened to music and played some BFH. Only a bit though. And then I blogged, though evidently not enough. So here I am.

To comments now, just the one.
*Ebony: Huh? Wah? Oh. Right. Yes, I did miss comments, and so I missed your comments too. And yes, first, though I see that you didn't mention your status as an aeroplane. Ah well.

And that was my day. Yes, it was a late post, I completely misjudged how much time I had on Tuesday night, and so posted late. That happens, though. Wednesday's post will hopefully not be late, though I'm not promising anything.

The relentless cycle of assignments continues; ah well,

Assessments and the Orthodontist

I got my Drama assessment back, we had a Geo exam, and I had to go the orthodontist's, as well as a few other things. By all rights, it should have been a bad day (well, maybe not bad. But still, they aren't necessarily especially good things.) But was actually a pretty good day. My guess is that as we near the holidays, moods go up. It just seems to be a good week, despite the seemingly bad things happening. Hmm.

Before school, I listened to my iPod (ah, how I missed you), and talked to people. Period 1 was Science, in which we did some work from sheets on cell reproduction. It was actually a bit of a bludge, as for most of the period, we marked the homework, and fixed up stuff we messed up. Then, it was Geography, in which we did a test on Geo definitions. I ended up getting 9 out of 10, which is pretty good for not studying. I really should have, I know, but I completely forgot. Ah well. These things happen. Recess was actually 13.

Period 3 was English, in which we were discussing exactly what the message behind Animal Farm was, and why the pigs were doing what they were. I thought it was pretty obvious (They wanted more), but Ebony pressed the teacher saying why. He said it was human nature. She asked why. 'Because it is' isn't the best response. But it is. Now she's confused. Anyway. Period 4 was Maths, in which we did some work on similar triangles. For some reason. We also proved that the textbook could be a lot clearer. And I mean a lot. A lot of the questions were vague, and essentially pointless. I blame society (as well as Mr. Yen. I mean, he wrote some of it.). Lunch was also 13. It's back to normal.

Period 5 was Drama, in which we got the results for our assignment. I got 14/20, but that's only because our play ran really short. I apparently did well, showing signs of something like doing my journal as I went along. Which is funny, because I essentially did it all 2 nights before. Thank god for blogging: Improving writing skills and pretending I wrote it 5 minutes ago is good by me! We also talked about ads. Last was Commerce, in which we were watching episodes of 'The Gruen Transfer' in the Library annex, particularly the segment 'The Pitch,' which are always really funny. We also might be watching it in Drama, which is especially awesome. When the bell went, we got out of class late, so I had to sprint as fast as I could to make it to the station in time for the train. And after school, I went to the orthodontist.

As usual, the actual appointment took all of 5 minutes, and the waiting around before and after it and the travel time took about 30. Ah, how the world works. The actual appointment held only one piece of good news: No more turning of the expander every day. Which I suppose is good, as if the gap were to get any bigger, there would be room for another tooth (sideways, but still). And when I got home, I blogged a bit, as well as going on MSN.

Now to comments, 1 from you-can-guess-who. Or, alternatively, you can have a look at the next line. Either way.
*Ebony (dun dun dah!): Most people laugh at my running. I used to look like Mr. Bean when I run (I might still. I'm not sure.). And indeed yay for finding my iPod. And guess what: you can no longer tell people how good days are. You're back to the beginning. So, take that!

And that was my Tuesday. Finally, I can get back to blogging normally. I thought I had caught up: I hadn't. Bloody hell. But that's what happens, I suppose. I have to stop procrastinating. Eh, maybe later.

Now the schedule has caught up,

Never Enough Time

It's just been so rush-rush today. I've been everywhere and I've been working like crazy. I've got the Drama Journal finished (Call the Pope; it's a miracle!), but I've got a History assignment due on Friday. Luckily, it's only something like 2 pages, and these types of assignments don't require much thinking. Still, it's a lot of work. I am going to enjoy the weekend. If only because it means an escape from assessments and half-yearlies for the first time in weeks. And I know it's a late post, that was just because I ran overtime.

I woke up at 7 today, and promptly rushed around as fast as I could to get my post done before school. I finished it with 5 minutes to go, and at school, I gave Ebony 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail.' I decided she must see it. Everybody should (that means you, person reading this!). Anyway. Period 1 was Science, which was doing some work on binary. For some reason, I really like binary. I've been doing it for a while (my Dad used to be an electronic technician, so he used to show me stuff like that). By the end of the lesson, Robson was getting us to crack a binary code. Period 2 was Computer Maths, and get this: we actually went on the computers. And like I said yesterday: we went on Geometer's Sketchpad. We did some work on circles inside and outside of triangles. The latter was easy, the former was really hard, until Rawson gave us a hint. I then spent the rest of the lesson bludging around in Computer Maths.

Recess was handball with John and Eric. Well, for 5 minutes, before it became clear that the ball sucked. So for the rest of Recess, we played 13. Period 3 and 4 were Ag. We were drenching goats today, but as there was a mix-up with the paddocks, only half the class actually drenched them. I volunteered to be one of that half, but it ended up not being so. I already volunteered to do something else in Ag that class, and that ended up with me sinking a centimetre into a patch of mud with an audible 'squelch!' So for most of the class, I talked to Ebony (and finding out that she's dragged Oishi into the secret/question game). We played word association for a while, before that got repetitive and therefore boring. We also played the ESP game (with cards), and after a bit we played the secret/question game. It does kill time. Lunch was more 13.

Period 5 was English, which was doing some questions on 'Animal Farm,' which somehow degenerated into the government history of the Phillipines, and the shoe collection of (according to Wikipedia, thy information god) a dictator called Ferdinand Marcos's wife, Imelda (Wikipedia link provided). Period 6 was History, which was doing more work from the textbook. At this point, I'd like to thank Mrs Johnson for reminding me about the assignment due on Friday. Or I would, at a guess, be in big trouble. But I won't be. So I'm relieved. When the bell went, I raced to the library to get a book, because I had an orthodontist appointment.

We got to the orthodontist's around 3:30, with parking and what not. My appointment was at 3:30, so we (Mum and I) thought we were late. Oh, how wrong we were. We waited in the waiting room (dun dun dah!) for 20 minutes, just reading. The actual appointment took 3 minutes. Waiting in line to pay for it took 7 (I counted on my watch). So it took more than twice as long waiting to pay for the appointment than it did in the appointment. By the time I got home, it was 4:30. That's 1.5 hours I'm never getting back. When I got home, I worked and worked on my Drama Journal, expanding it, and realising I needed 5 pages instead of 4. Around 8:30, I'd finished. But I couldn't finish the post in time, so here I am.

And that was my Tuesday. There was never enough time. There wasn't enough time to do the Drama Journal and blog. To start the History assignment. And so on and so forth. Anyway.

The cursed journal is finished!,

Just Call Me Jaws: Part 2

In reference to this post, of course. I say it because today I got a day off school; but not for nothing. I had to go to the orthodontist to get the rest of my braces. Then tonight I went to the Year 11 Subject Selection Evening. So the late post is not really my fault. Or that's how I claim it.

I woke up at 6:30, and we all left for Shay's place around 7:45-ish. We dropped EJ off, and then we took Shay onboard. We dropped her off at school, and then we made our way to the orthodontist. As soon as I sat down, they called me up. They started by taking out the top spacers, and then I brushed my teeth. That's twice (including after breakfast). They then put the expander in, and the top wire. I left around 9:00 with my metal mouth completed, and attempted to talk. Attempted being the operative word. 'She sells seashells by the seashore' now turns out like 'She sells sisells by th'see saw.' Then, after going window shopping for a while (I was with Mum), we went to Wattle Grove Shops, and Mum made me get a haircut. I also had a donut; and found eating is also a problem. I've become everything I've ever hated!

When I got home around 12, I had lunch (with some difficulties), and then played some DS for a while. When my Dad got home, he saw my braces, and started freaking out. A lot. The conversation went something like this: 'Let's see... Oh my god!' 'Dad, relax.' He's worse than Mum when it comes to the towbar in my mouth (yes, I call it that. I've also heard the Terminator, train tracks, metalmouth, Jaws, and so on and so forth. I love the second and the fourth ones.). Then, while Dad and EJ went to training, Mum and I left for Subway so that I could eat before the Subject Selection Evening.

Eating at Subway was as all eating is now: long, drawn-out, and sadly difficult. Ah well. These things happen. When we got to Hurlstone, I talked to Eric, Mango and Shafi, and when we got inside, we all sat down together. Later Victor came, and he sat next to us as well. They told us about ranking, scaling, and stuff like that. What I expect to put down:
*English: I'm going to be talking to my teachers on what I should do. They'll pick for me; I'm not sure which I should do.
*Maths 2 Unit: Definitely not General. I will do 2 Unit; maybe extension. I'm still considering it.
Now, the electives, in order:
*Physics: This one is an obvious one. I love physics. Two of the electives for Physics are 'Astrophysics' and 'From Quantum to Quarks.' My nerdy sense is tingling!
*Economics: Money = good. I also did pretty well in Commerce last year (maybe this year, I'm not sure), so I think Economics is good for me.
*Chemistry: Atoms, the Periodic Table, so on and so forth. I'll enjoy Chemistry (though it will never, never be as good as Physics. Never.)
*Legal Studies: Law pays well, and I'm considering that. I'd prefer Science, but Law is a bit of a 'fallback.' I also have to read a lot.
And my reserves:
*Business Studies: It seems like an extension of Economics, so I'll probably do that. It's my main reserve.
*_______: I have no idea what my 6th elective is. I was thinking Senior Science, but I might get stuck with 6 units of Science. Maybe IPT, I'm still thinking about it. Engineering Studies is also a possibility.
After the Subject Selection Evening, I went home and wound down. I watched some TV and played some DS. I tried to blog, but I didn't get to finish. And here I am, Friday arvo, blogging.

Again, no comments, so this paragraph is the last. The next few posts may be short ones, so I might beef them up with lists. We'll see.

What to choose, what to choose,

Just Call Me Jaws

For people that didn't get that, there was a James Bond movie called 'The Spy Who Loved Me' in the 703, and one of the villains was a guy called Jaws. Here's a picture. As you can see, he has metal in his mouth. This is a very roundabout way of saying I got braces today. OK? Yes, I got braces. All shall be explained.

I woke up around 7:30, and went to watch TV, and go on my laptop. I had breakfast at 8, and after that, I went and played DS. I didn't go to school. Hooray! Then, after playing DS, going on my laptop, and watching TV, we left for the orthodontist around 10:45.

The appointment was at 11, and it transpired that I was getting braces, and not expanders (I'm getting them later). When we got in, they first told me all the ins and outs of brushing my teeth, which was surprisingly long, and also meant that brushing my teeth is no longer a 2 minute encounter. No, I now brush my teeth for something like 10 minutes, 3 times a day. What fun! Then, the official procedure began. They first took some of the spacers out, and put in these metal rings, which feel really weird when I put my tongue against them. It feels like my tooth has mutated out, and has grown a twisted outcropping. That took another 10 minutes. and then I sat around for 5 minutes waiting for them to prepare for the actual brace-fitting. When they came out, I laid down, and they put those tinted goggles you sometimes get at the dentist over my eyes. They then put plastic things in my mouth to hold it open, so they could actually fit the braces. One part was digging into my gums, and that hurt. So I had to take my mind off it. While they talked and put the braces on (I didn't even feel that part, only the plastic-widener-thing), I stared up at a fluorescent light, and tried to make patterns out of the diamond pattern that covered the actual light. I first made the alphabet, then I did all of the digits. When I finished that, I started singing Tom Lehrer songs in my head, paying careful attention to the lyrics. I thought 'Poisoning Pigeons in the Park,' then I started on 'Lobachevsky.' I got halfway through that when they said they finished. They then put the wire in; and that was it. I have to go in every few weeks, of course, but finished for today. I'll show everybody at school, rest assured.

Then, after all that (the whole thing taking about an hour), my Mum went to go get lunch, and she went to Spotlight to get some stuff. I played DS while she did. When we got home, I had my first food with braces (which was weird as I had to get past the 'how-the-hell-do-I-eat-with-these-on' barrier), which was two English muffins with ham and cheese, two donuts and a Milo. From then, I just went on my laptop, TV and DS, until 5:30-ish, when we all went with Jo to Laser Zone.

My brother's footy team had Laser Tag, so I went, and so did Shay. The first time, we paired up, and I got 8th out of 13. It was mainly because I didn't shoot many people, not that I got shot too many times myself. That went for around 30 minutes, and then we had a break. After the 10 minute break, we went for another round. Again, I got 8th, but my tag ratio (I shoot to shoot me) was great, 232%. That means I shot over twice as many people as I got shot. Sweet. When that was finished, we had dinner, which for me was pizza and Solo. I love pizza and Solo. My brother, though, doesn't like cheese, and ended up vomiting. After all that, I got home around 8:30, when I had a smoothie, and then started blogging. I also attempted to floss, which was incredibly difficult. I will soon get the hang of it. Hopefully. Anyway, here I am, blogging so I can sleep.

Comments now; 9 from 4 people. 3 are the same, one person changed. And it wasn't intentional spam this time.
*Shafi: OK, it's official: noone else may say firstings. It is only Shafi. That is all.
*Shafi: Scroll up, all is explained.
*Rosa: Everyone has differing opinions. I thought the movie was retarded. But there you go.
*Victor: OK; yard sales are awesome. So is Kyle and Jackie O. I hope I did well on the English exam, it took me a few run-throughs as well. Hopefully the School Certificate is clearer. My paragraphs are bearable. And I'm not fearing any oil.
*Ebony: Relax, relax. Not being mentioned is not the end of the world. He also wrote more than you, so a shorter reply.
*Ebony: I'm sure my Dad thinks you're cool as well. He's good like that.
*Victor: I fully agree with you on all counts bar my unawareness. I just didn't want to mention the yard sale that much.
*Ebony: My comment section is not a live chat, dammit! Argue on your own time and place. I am backing Victor here. End story.
*Victor: OK, they're awesome, we get it.

Well, that was my today. Tomorrow is back to school, and hopefully my braces don't hurt. We'll just have to see. Only this time, no gum to bear it. But, if they do hurt, then it'll probably only be for a while. Let's see, shall we?

Wednesdays For The Win

I love Wednesdays; they're the best school days of the week (barring Fridays, of course.). There's not much schoolwork actually on, you can play more cards at Recess, and so on and so forth. And today was an especially good day, even with my seemingly constant barrage of retardedness (Toiche. See? Tocuhe. Tocuhe. Touche. Hooray, finally!).

On the train ride to school, I listened to some songs from 2 years back on my iPod, because I realised I haven't listened to them in ages. I also got 'Happy Ending' by Mika stuck in my head (I can sing the entire chorus now, though I can guess most people don't want me to.). At school, I talked to Ebony and Victor, and then Eric came over. Ebony then told me that we only had Periods 1 and 2, because of NAPLAN. I didn't know it; didn't even suspect it. That's my brain for you. Role Call was dropping off some books, and reading a bit of 'The Elegant Universe,' because I also haven't read that in a while. Then it was Science, with Mahfouz instead of Robson (I know, I know.). That was doing some worksheets, but all in all it was a pretty bludgy period. 40 minutes of work, followed by 40 minutes of reading. Sweet. Then it was Recess, which was 13 (how do I lose with a 2 in my hand?) with John, Andy, Kevin and Eric, as well as talking on and off with Victor and Ebony, who now seem to be a couple in everything but name (yes, I said it.). I have become the hanger-on to their couple, the guy who hangs around with them. It's hard to explain. There were also 16 people at our table today (yes, I counted. Twice.). It was cool.

Period 2 was Geo, which was finishing Geo worksheets from yesterday, and doing a bit on my book and mucking around with my calculator, like making AB = 42, and trying to work out what 'sinh' means. I am easily amused. Lunch was a pretty random thing, as it was first 13, then Speed with Andy (losing by 2 cards), and then finally going over to talk to Ebony's table, to talk to Victor and Ebony, Rhoda, and Joannie (did I spell that right. Also notice how I put Victor and Ebony together there. That was intentional.). Then later, Kevin came over, then Rutherford and Patrick and Noha and several other people. I lost track. What we talked about was basically nothing, and at the end we all started touching (I just typed 'tocuhing.' Oy vey.) Victor's hair, for some bizarre reason. Why is a good question. Then it was School Sport, which was moving wood from outside the woodwork rooms to inside them, and then walking the Cross Country course, but in reverse this time. On the way, I talked to Victor and Kevin about my book. I'm not sure if they were interested, but it was good to just talk about it, bounce ideas off people, and work out where I could encounter some problems (example: how does Damarius control 'The Fierce Ones' in Book 2? I know that will not make sense to many people. It made sense to me.). Then, when we finally got back near the building part of the school, Victor ran to the Dance rooms (I couldn't catch up. Of course.), with me attempting to follow close behind. There, we talked to Ebony about nothing, as usual, then when the bell went, I took a detour to the library, to drop books off. Yes, I dropped them off this morning, I know that now. But it had slipped my mind then. Then for a while I talked to Victor and Ebony (it's become a regular thing now), until Victor was picked up, and then while walking to the station I talked to Ebony about such random topics as the voices in our heads (mine quotes chemical symbols, she's actually named hers now), where our names came from, and my past relationship. I don't know how that last one came into it, but anyway. Skip to me getting home, and it's basically straight to the orthdontist.

At the orthodontist, I had to get spacers in, which are small rubber rings that fit between your teeth to move them. It's easier to show than to explain. It took all of a minute, and I got 20 minutes of reading it. So that was pretty OK (I now have to chew gum twice a day for a while. I won't ask why, but the orthodontist told me so. So I will.). When I got home, I did a bit on my assessment (so that's slightly less than a page tomorrow.), and then after dinner (and trying to eat with the spacers in for the first time), it was time for hapkido.

In hapkido today, we had Master Jimmy, who works us pretty hard, but is fair when he does training and such (unlike Madam Tina, who just kicks everybody's ass.). He's a bit unorthodox, but it's more so to concentrate on skills and stretching. Today I learnt that: I need more work on my kicks; my catrolls are good but are done in a bit of a strange style; and I am more flexible than I was but still not that flexible. Ah well. Practice makes perfect. Then when I got home, I went into my blog, and have been posting non-stop for over half an hour so far. I love to blog.

To comments now, 3 from 2 people. Let's get to it.
*Ebony: I seriously only mentioned two? Goddamn. I forgot to do it, but not what it was. It was that Hancock called Andrew gay (I think. I only heard a bit.). My bloody memory. And I am, admittedly, getting used to 'Victor Gray' (though I still think there's a better name out there.). And, yes, I know, I missed Shane's. I get it. I sorta miss AC as well, I hope they come back.
*Rosa: A lot of cameras, yeah, I can't wait to see them on Youtube. I hope he lets us organise as well.
*Ebony: OK; Yes, you were first, third, and longest. Perhaps awesomest.

OK, I really have to finish up now. Thursday will be full of work, and Friday will be relaxing, what with the disco and all. I can't wait. Maybe I'll get more of my book done tomorrow; I doubt it though. Ah well.

A long post for a long day (that wasn't even intentional),

Another One of Those Days

Yep, it was just another one of those days. 'Just My Luck' was already taken. Damn me! But, I'll get to how it was another one of those days.

I caught the bus to the station, and on the way to school the train stopped (in its tracks!). I also left my phone on overnight (absentmindedness strikes again). Period 1 was Science, which was doing more circuit work, and me proving that bulbs left on the highest voltage get very hot very quickly. With my hand. Next was Geography, which was starting a new topic on 'Urban Growth and Decline' (reading from the textbook), and getting our assessments back. I got 11/15, which is OK (speaking of which, my Dance got 26/30. W00t!). Recess was, as usual, cards, but Eric came along to play some 13 as well. So we had 5. Victor, come back and play 13. We barely have enough people to play. You could bring Ebony; she likes 13, I think (actually that's not a bad idea...). Period 3 was English, which was listening to a CD of 'Macbeth', which could have been a lot better. Witch 3 sounded like she was in a casual conversation, rather than as an evil witch. 'Oh, yeah, that will be the ere the set of sun. Yeah.' Anyway. Maths was me (and prepare for nerdiness on a grand scale) using Newton's Method of Approximation for finding square roots (I won't get into it) on negative 1: and coming up with a set of chaotic numbers. One small change in the beginning number and down the track there's a whole different number. But, I digress.

Lunch was 13 and 31, of course. They're fun (though I maintain that 13 is better and, contrary to Shafi, that 13 is awesome. Or, mawesome.). Period 5 was Drama, which was getting into the minds of the characters we created, and some people went up front and got asked questions. I'm going next period. Tansy was brutal to Lucy; she was describing people (I was 'glasses kid.'), and she got both 'tall girl who looks like she gets around' and 'legs and little else.' Epic Win. That was one of the funniest things I have ever heard in Drama (though Professor Blueberry and the Crocodile is still up there.). Next was Commerce, which was little work. Then, skip all the way to home, and around 5-ish, I had to go to the orthodontist.

This is why it was one of those days. Long story short: Guess who needs braces (and the answer isn't Victor. Lol, Victor with braces... where was I?). Yeah. Me. 21 months. But, it's good for my health, I suppose. And, I'll get nerdier (which will be funnier.)

Comments; 2 from 1 person? Really? Ah well. Better than none, I suppose.
*Victor: No. No I don't get that. It might be a Shakespeare reference, but I don't see how it makes much sense. How did your backpack get set alight? And better ways to spend your time? Bring her along. Everybody's happy!
*Victor: Wow, that comment was completely and utterly pointless. You said your first comment was first, then pointed out that this comment was second. Maybe you should have just said 'This comment is second' and be done with it. (Oh lord, what have I started.)

Finishing up my Tuesday. Usually I like Tuesdays. Wednesdays are good too, because there isn't as much work. Tomorrow I'll probably do a lot of work on my book; I'm ploughing ahead in the plot, and I have an idea to get rid of a problem in the plot (I need something to work off which seems natural in the course of things and still serves the plot idea), which if there's a trilogy will make for a kick-ass idea in the third book. If you want to ask me about my book, come ask, I've talked to a few people already. Anyway.

Dental Plan! AB Needs Braces?

Yes. I may need braces. Feel free to imagine me in braces and laugh. If I've ever said 'Can I get any more nerdy?', then the answer is yes. Yes I can. (And if you didn't get that title, then you don't watch 'The Simpsons' and there may be something wrong with you.). I will get to all of that when the time comes.

It was mufti today. They didn't tell us why or even until Period 6 yesterday, but it was an excuse to go out of uniform. Period 1 was English, which was supposed to be reviewing short stories, but since I didn't print mine out, I spent the time reading my book. As I do. Next was Maths, and Faulds made a conscious effort to call me Ben. Not even unintentional anymore. I am now Ben in Maths. Maths was spent doing random equations I worked out, like area of a regular polygon, and a formula for working out pi, both with trigonometry. A1, remember. Or maybe it's just me. Probably just me. Recess was 13, as it always is. I love 13. Period 3 was Drama, which was theory: creating a character. That was a fun theory lesson (surprisingly), and I ended up creating a Russian business man living in New York, which was really good. It also got a song stuck in my head called 'Lobachevsky,' a song by Tom Lehrer (YouTube link), since it's about a Russian mathematician and is very funny. I've been singing it all day. Commerce was doing more work on my assessment, as well as looking up the lyrics to 'Lobachevsky.' Next was Lunch, which was 13 as well as annoying everybody by singing part of 'Lobachevsky' over and over again. I love it. It's already on my iPod. Period 5 and 6 were PE, which was a netball round robin tournament (brief side note: where does round robin come from. Though, I'm sure Mango will put it in his next post, hint hint.). Our team was the only one that didn't win a game. Yeah, we weren't too good. But, that was fine, since I'm used to that, sporting-wise. Then, after some homework, around 5:30, it was time to go to the orthodontist.

I had some brief check-ups, testing bite marks and so on. Then, I was listening to the orthodontist and she said to come back in a few weeks, but she thinks that I'll need wideners (whatever they are), as well as braces to fix things up. My body hates me. Here's how: braces, my bad nail, my panic attacks... etc. Bloody hell. I'm just going to leave it at that because I have limited time.

Comments now, 7 of them, as opposed to the 22 on Sunday. But, 6 people today. So to the comments!
*Mango: Victor has points. But, if it will make you happy, you get all those points. And then some. W00t!
*Mango: lol freedom indeed.
*Victor: You have been beaten.
*Karen: Arriola had her heart in the right place, but she wasn't that great a teacher. That's my opinion. And maybe first next time: Firsts are awesome. And, to say it, yes, Rebecca is cute. That's all I say though. And thanks for the hair compliment. And I wouldn't want my brother doing martial arts: big problem there. Have a nice night too!
*Ebony: Don't ask about my short story. I'm still trying to repress the memories. Drama marks: good. English marks: not so good. Same for both of us. Word verify is now gone, never to return!
*AC: Thursday: all true. I love hapkido, it's amazing. Thanks for the comment compliment (try saying that 5 times fast). And keep commenting, I like your comments.
*John: Hapkido is like nothing else. It's amazing; you meet new people, it's practical, you get a lot of exercise. In short, I recommend it to everybody. And that would be epic; I'd want to see that.

Well, I'll sign off. Everyone comment please, I heart comments. I'll end with something that may annoy some of you (Victor and John) and may puzzle you (everyone else).

I have a friend in Minsk, who has a friend in Pinsk,

A Trip to the Orthodontist

Before I go on, several titles were rejected as being some of the worst puns that have ever been told or will be. Please pay your (lack of) respects to 'Al-X-Ray' (Alex Ray, Al X-Ray) and AB X-Ray (something with letters). Now that that is out of the way, today I did 3 periods of what should have been work and one that was, in fact, work. Let's see how.

My Mum drove me to school because my brother was sitting the selective schools exam, at Hurlstone. If he makes it in, he could be the only blue-eyed and blonde-haired non-boarder (too many hyphens) in the whole of Hurlstone. Period 1 was Maths, which was watching Faulds muck around on Graphmatica (Geometer's Sketchpad > Graphmatica. Yes. I know I'm weird. And proud of it!) with squared and cubed numbers, and inequalities. On the plus side, there was no work. Period 2 should have been Drama, but instead we went outside and did 'Year 10 Peer Support-This-Should-Have-Been-Cancelled-Years-Ago.' They basically gave us a sheet of paper and said 'Go split up into 3 groups/groups of 3 (genius), and write about conflict!' Some of the questions (and some of what I would have written) were: 'What is the conflict?' (I don't know whether to rip this sheet of paper up or burn it), 'What are their (involved people) fears?' (The dark, spiders and flying, and 'What are their needs?' (This one writes itself.) Again, at least it got us out of work. Recess was talking, and we did some more dancing, as usual. Period 3 was Commerce. Kearney was away, so we had Gippel, who I will say is nice, but he's not cut out to teach Commerce (a bit like Arriola in that respect.). Next was Science, and since there was a Creating Connections excursion, as well as a Sports Science one, classes were practically empty. So they brought 10I in, including Eric, Kevin, Victor, May Lyn and Rayan. In class, we made a motor out of a transformer, one 50 cm length of copper wire, 2 alligator clips, 2 weights, 2 magnets and 2 paperclips. If you want to know how, it's probably on Youtube. Much fun was had when we set alight a tissue (it smelt like popcorn. For some reason.), and when sparks flew between paperclips and copper wire. Lunch, 1st half was spent playing 13, to more success than yesterday.

A short rant: I hate people calling me by my wrong name, or mispronouncing my last name. Let me set the record straight: My name is not Ben, despite Ejsak, Faulds, and numerous other teachers' claims (apparently there was a guy years ago who looked like me called Ben. So teachers' brains short-circuit. I pity anyone in a few years who looks like me. They'll be called Ben, then Alex. Won't that be confusing.). My name is not Ian (Shafi: I am tall and Caucasian. Ian is short and Asian. I don't know how you confuse us.). And my last name ends with an -ay sound. Not an -ee sound. I've had this problem since I can remember. Someone, somewhere, will eventually get it right. OK. Moving on.

Lunch, 2nd half was spent sitting in the office, reading and waiting for my Mum to go get my brother so I can go get my X-rays done. Once we were at the clinic, we waited for about 10 minutes, then I got called in. I took my glasses off, and was told to go stand with my head in this helmet/crane/umbrella thing (it's hard to explain). Unfortunately the doctor forgot to adjust it, so I walked head-first into it (see, no glasses). That X-ray took about 15 seconds. Then I went to stand in another thing, and that X-ray was seemingly over before it began (seriously. I stepped into it, and then she said it was over.). Then we went to Westfields, where my Mum got new sunglasses and I got a doughnut. At home, I spent the time looking for my Maths textbook (please tell me someone's seen it), doing my Research Action Plan for Tuesday (1 down, 3 to go), and watching TV. I also found 2 websites. FAIL Blog, documenting the retarded things of the world with the simple word 'Fail.' My favourite so far is this one, which simply says 'Why are there school?' That is just sheer genius/retardedness. The other site is a shirt-selling site called One Horse Shy for some arbitrary but intriguing reason. I'll make myself extremely clear: This line of shirts is tailor-made for me (That joke was either really good or really bad. I can't tell which.).

An interesting day, I'd say. X-rays, retarded Peer Support-y things and bludge, bludge, bludge. Friday, I'm guessing will be more work, but hopefully that's only because any less work and school will be cancelled for the day. (I can dream, can't I?) If tomorrow is anything like today, I hope it never ends (because on Tuesday everything's due. *sigh*).

I might need braces (just imagine what I'd look like with them. Lol.),
